The Batmobile that no one has driven…1940 style!

THE 1940’s BATMOBILE aka N8MOBILE BUILD STORY Part One

By Nate Truman

The hobby of star cars has grown from a few crazy people like me pre-internet looking for original movie and TV cars, sweating the details by scanning every frame of a show to try and recreate our childhood dream cars, to a world wide movement!   Since the 1970’s fans of famous cars have been recreating, or restoring the famous rides of the small and big screen to live out their childhood fantasies of driving the ride from their favorite film or TV show.  Even cartoon cars, like the Ninja Turtle van, Speed Racer’s Mach 5, the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine, and Transformers have become real drivable vehicles when a fan with a dream decides to bring them to life.

I have been called a “Founding Father” of the star car movement. That’s a nice way to say I have been doing this a long time. Since the 1970’s. Because of that I am running out of cars to find or build that “float my boat”.    I still have a short list of cars I want to drive or see on the roads of Hollywood, but the list is getting smaller. Other fans have jumped in and are building most everything now, sometimes before the movie has even come out!      One that has yet to appear, however, is one I have been waiting for someone else to build for many years.  Because it’s hard, expensive, and not a car that everyone will even “get” except the big time Batman fans. Only a couple of people have tried it. Due to life getting in the way the few that have started builds have given up or stalled.  So I have stopped waiting and am building my own version!

Batman started in 1939 driving a couple of red sedans, but as the early artists and creators, Jerry Robinson and Dick Sprang started to make batman stuff, like the Bat-plane, the Batarang, etc.  it was only a matter of a few issues of the comic books that the term “Batmobile” showed up.  Throughout the 1940’s various young artists drew the Dark Knight’s ride.  Even though they were pretty similar, it was when the Batmobile burst through the cover of the Batman comic #20 that the world knew Batman’s ride was something pretty special!

Believe it or not, the Batplane was created first! Made to look like a bat, Batman was flying everywhere in his custom bat plane, but just had an ordinary car for a short while.   As the early artists were young guys trying to work fast to finish more pages to make more money, continuity and conformity to previous art was not a high priority.  So the car was drawn based on each artist’s skills, and their favorite cars at the time.  In other words, it rarely looked the same way twice! No stripes, red stripes, blue stripes, the fin changed in every panel, sometimes with or without fender skirts, windows moved around, doors opened both ways but a few things stayed the same.  It had a big BAT face on the front, and a big bat wing/fin down the middle and out the back!

I think someone saw the 1925 round door Rolls Royce and just took it a step further.

For the sake of speed, many times panels were copied, or used as reference to draw the car like it had been drawn in previous issues, like these two panels.  Basically they played fast and loose with the details of the batmobile, as each artist tried to copy another version, or put a new spin on it for his panels.

For my 1940’s “N8MOBILE” build, I decided that I would use what inspired me from drawings from 1941 to 1948.  After world war 2, the new artists started updating the batmobile and the design changed almost every time the car appeared for decades after 1948.  (If you want to see all the different versions, go to a great site by a pal of mine,  Batmobile History.)

As there were surprisingly few panels of the batmobile over the 41-48 years of the comics – a few versions emerged based on different artists. Some of those have become available as toys or maquettes and toy designers had to decide what a solid 3d version of these drawings would look like.  Above are some early designs for the toy versions from several companies.

Danbury Mint came out with the first high end detailed model and I like a lot of what they decided on in the real world!

The red stripe patterns, the four exhaust ports out each side and the coupe style with the swoopy back end was what I wanted to shoot for in my artistic “mash up” version.  The one thing I did NOT like was the bat fin.  TOO big. Rear skirts maybe, front skirts no. In several panels of the comic the doors had “suicide” front opening doors. I think reverse opening doors made it more custom and less like a car from the 40’s with a bat and a fin on it!

There have been a few other toy versions, Corgi, Eaglemoss, Mattel and a couple of model kits release as well.

Here is the 4 door Maquette version.

Most of all the drawings had the car with two doors, but a few had 4 like this display piece.  I liked the split back window, and the fin on this version was a better design in the real world.  So my fin I would be built to look more like this version.

1940s batmobiles

Here’s a great line up of most of the toy versions. All the fins are different, there are versions with 2,3 and 4 exhausts on each side, stripes move around a bit, or all black, but it’s basically the same overall design.  I looked at how many times a detail appeared, and what I liked and didn’t like, as well as cost to come up with my final design that I wanted to bring to life.  I searched for shots of cars with the side hood exhaust in 2-3-and 4 versions and two looked stingy, three would raise questions of “Is this a v6? (no, they had v8’s but the two center exhausts were combined) so for various reasons mostly that it looked the coolest, I decided I would have 4.

In my quest to do my due diligence I also scoured old comics, one shots, and any source where I thought I might find another take on this era Batmobile.  A few items showed up, but my favorite was in a modern version of a Batman cartoon where his current batmobile is stolen and he has to use his “vintage” backup ride.

As you can see, the red stripes and many of the details from the Danbury Mint version are included, other than adding an afterburner to the rear.  Because, afterburners are just cool. 🙂

Actually in this cartoon version, they swapped out the big curvy batfin and added a composite version fin.

Screen Shot 2016-05-10 at 9.53.42 PMThis cartoon also brought something else to my attention, the interior of the car. In the comics all you see is a 1930’s “Banjo style” steering wheel, and a “circle” on Robin’s side.  Most cars of the day had a clock on the passenger’s side dash, and just a few dials for the driver.

Pretty simple by today’s standards but it’s just what cars looked like then.Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 12.38.06 PMScreen Shot 2016-05-25 at 12.39.12 PM

In this recent cartoon take though, the animators decided to “gadget it up” for some Joker gags and add lots of switches and stuff.  I suppose Batman could have had this batmobile retrofitted with bat stuff over the years, he does tend to over prepare!  It was a fun bit, but the bat gadgets didn’t really get going until almost the end of this batmobile’s run – in the comics all they added during those years were some boat propellers and extra costume storage compartments. Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 12.39.02 PM40's police
The police of the day did have early CB like radio systems, so I would have to put in something like that in mine.

Screen Shot 2016-04-24 at 2.19.51 PM

There was a blueprint dash that was just made up for one of the toys. It was cool, but it was also too busy for the time period and what I wanted the final product to look like.

Lastly I had to decide what my Bat symbol would look like. It has changed a lot over the years, and during the 1940’s batman often had NOTHING on his chest or a weird scribbled wing with no head. Screen Shot 2016-05-16 at 5.54.34 PM I was amazed at how this iconic part of Batman was not really defined in the early years and it seemed almost an afterthought to the artists.  The Danbury Mint version had it’s own classic bat on the hub caps and on the motor.
Screen Shot 2016-05-16 at 5.53.29 PM

I eventually combined a few designs, and cropped the ears to come up with a bat I liked.

Now, all that was left to do was find a donor car, and make this fictional cartoon car into my version of a street legal crime fighting monster!    STAY TUNED, BAT FANS, the best is yet to come!  PART TWO, the search for the CAR!

A look back at the Hollywood Christmas Parade, soon a bigger line up in Burbank April 6th!

Ok, This is from a blog I found about the 2012 Hollywood Christmas parade, but he got our whole line up and had nice things to say about all of the members who came and participated!   On April 6th we will have more than this epic line up, with a few new members and surprises as well! Come out to the Burbank parade and meet the Star Car Central team!

Wait, what!? The 1960s Batmobile from the Adam West “Batman” show and the 1989 Batmobile riding together??
Awesome. The 1989 one even unleashed a bunch of firecrackers underneath it. Where does he get those wonderful toys?

Another shot of the two Batmobiles.

I’ll take one of each.

Yeah, baby.

Remember when cars looked cool?

Okay, apparently the Christmas parade just turned into a pop culture cars parade, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
Here’s the DeLorean DMC-12 from “Back to the Future”.

Another shot of the DeLorean.

Not one, but two Herbie Volkswagen Bugs drove by.

Herbie fully loaded, with stickers and new rims!

The Pontiac Trans-Am from “Smokey and the Bandit”.

Look out, it’s them Duke boys speeding by in the General Lee!

I wonder if Boss Hog will ever catch ’em.

Apparently this was Bumblebee from the Transformers movie.
I wouldn’t know, because I tried blocking that bastardization of a beloved childhood memory from my mind long ago.

Starsky & Hutch. Word.

Scooby Doo riding on by in The Mystery Machine van!

Well whaddaya know! It’s the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Van along with April O’Neil walking beside it!

And yes, that’s the same van from the TMNT video I appeared in earlier this year.

Probably the most intimidating van in history – the classic van from The A-Team.

It’s KITT from Knight Rider.
(fun fact: KITT stands for “Knight Industries Two Thousand)

There was a second Knight Rider car that drove by and the motion lights on the front were gold instead of red.
Must’ve been KITT’s brother, KATT. (HAR!)

Time to go off-roading with Jurassic Park.

Smile while you can kid… you’ll be devoured by a Velociraptor soon enough. Merry Christmas!

Now this one was a real treat for me… I’m a HUGE fan of John Carpenter’s “Christine”, so getting to see the Plymouth Fury
from the film was nothing short of awesome. I do wish they had it playing 1950s rock & roll when it drove by though.

I’ve seen it plenty of times over the years, but the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters is always a welcome sight.

Are you kidding me!? Alright, they definitely saved the best for last. An X-34 Landspeeder occupied by
two Jawas with perfect glowing yellow eyes, a Tusken Raider, and Leia in the Boushh disguise. Amazing.

Nothing says “Christmas” like an X-34 Landspeeder chasing after the Ecto-1 chasing after Christine.

BOTCON AT PASADENA CONVENTION CENTER STARCARCENTRAL.COM ROLLED OUT THE AUTOBOTS!

Star Car Central is made up of quite of collection of cool cars and just as cool and varied owners/drivers!  If you had told me a few years back that I would have so many starcars that I would find and connect cars like Transformer owners, I would have laughed!  But now off shoots are going to events that are just for their type of car.   Back on June 3-5,2011 (I know, I am trying to catch up!)  Bumblebee owner Jon Merker  and Jason Ybarra with his  Ratchet Medic van decided to display their transformer autobots at the annual BOTCON Convention held this year at the Pasadena convention center.   The robot fans flipped out when they saw the cars.
Friday morning BOTCON held their annual fan film festival screening. There were 16 short films shown and that night at 10pm the winners were announced. “Trampsformers” won 3rd place.

Photoshopped? Well, yes, but they were all there! From left to right , Writer/Director : Hahnah Jackson, Laundryman: David Bear, Tramp: Jason Ybarra, Thug: Jon Merker, Editor: Alex Wong, not shown was Scott Bradlee :the music composer.

Congrats to the Transformer SCC team who won third place for their movie “Trampsformers!”

Then on Saturday Alex Wong brought his KITT to be displayed too. Possible new members to SCC were on hand as well. Paul from Pomona brought his Ironhide and Shannon from Arizona brought his Trailbreaker to be on display too.  Stay tuned to see Paul with SCC, soon a whole set of Transformers!!! (video down below of all ratchets features!)

"Transformers, ROLL OU.... hey, where's optimus and who's that new guy?" "Hey Guys, I'm KITT. Optimus went out with Goliath and left me in charge."

A fun weekend in all, with Bumblebee,Ratchet, and Ironhide even taking a cruise to IN N OUT on Saturday night! and then a theater in Santa Monica showed the original 1986 Transformers cartoon movie Sunday night where Ratchet and Bumblebee were displayed outside the theater as well, many of the voice actors were in house too!

THE ORIGINAL TRANSFORMER FEATURE FILM BACK ON THE BIG SCREEN!

"I've never seen this movie, nothing happens to Optimus Prime, right? Right? Hey Guys..."

You can find many more photos from BOTCON as well as a link to watch “Trampsformers” Ratchet on page 2 of Ratchets website :  http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3897880
watch the video, and see what his licence plate reads out! NICE, JASON!  The boys and bots have found each other, and there is no turning back!  Great job everyone!

Burbank on Parade StarCarCentral.com wins again!

Hey Star Car Fans!

Yes I know I am behind on my blogging! We are having too much fun playing with our toys lately to stop and write about it!  So let’s catch up a bit!  On April 9th, 2011 a BIG group of the ever changing line up of cars at Star Car Central.com showed up to drive in the Burbank Parade!  For the second time in a row, we won our category!  Novelty, Non Commercial!  Not sure if we had any competition, but we won!

We had a few new members, some Burbank locals that rarely come out and a bunch of the “regulars” all lined up once again for a fun parade on a beautiful day!

Our “Banner Girls” lead the way out in front with Sue in Her Get Smart Sunbeam and machine gun!  After a long wait on a beautiful tree lined street we finally got started and the crowd loved seeing all their old “four wheeled friends” from TV and movies from the past!

Here’s a nice shot of Sue with our award banner at the end of the parade!

Paul brought out his “MAD MAX” Interceptor for a rare look at his very rare replicar with right hand drive and meanest looking police car around!

New to our group this year is Stephen and his Jurassic Park Explorer! He is actually more into rock climbing than star cars, but his truck is a crowd pleaser!  We have yet to get Stephen and Ari together, who has a Jurassic park Jeep!

Transformers, assemble!  and then turn off your engines and wait for a bit longer!  John’s BumbleBee Camaro from Transformers is followed by Jason’s “Ratchet” Transformer ambulance from the cartoons! You can also see Tony’s top notch Smokey and the Bandit Trans am and Lou’s Torino from Starsky and Hutch bringing up the rear in the above photo.

Behind Tony is Nate Truman in his new “A-Team” van – this is the last shot of the van before the front push bar and even MORE front lights were added!  “I pity the fool” who doesn’t love Mr. T and his van!

Alex put on his light and sound show with his amazing KITT car from Knight Rider!

Cliff and his son are behind the wheel of their NASCAR inspired Herbie, like in “Herbie, fully loaded”

Oscar’s 308 GTSi Ferrari decked out like in the Magnum P.I. TV show is pretty at any angle!

Charlie brought his Green fastback Mustang like the one Steve McQueen drove in “Bullitt” the dream car of many men in the crowd!

Lou turned on his sirens and police lights and delighted all the “Starsky and Hutch” fans. His “stripped tomato” is a fan favorite!

Paul drove his Back to the Future Delorean with gull wing doors open, and  sounds from the movie blaring! Reba, get that leg back in the car!

Dave and his family tooted out the familiar sounds of “DIXIE” as they displayed their Dukes of Hazzard General Lee Charger!

A few times a year we are always happy to see “the other” batmobile! Tom’s car is sweet and he’s one of the few guys Nate has to chat with about after burners!

You are not seeing double, this is Jason’s “classic” Herbie as the lovable Bug appeared in the early movies! Jason also was running through the cars to get all these photos and did all the paperwork and phone calls so we could all play with our cars down the middle of the street!  Thanks Jason and “Dad” Dave!

Mark with his Adam-12 Cruiser gets extra “good guy” points for coming despite being in terrible pain! His “reward” for his troubles? He started overheating due to the slow speed of the parade! So he switched on his police lights and sirens and tore to the end of the parade to let the car cool down! Thanks for putting yourself through all that!   The crowd loved seeing the car tear down the street and I thought it was the “real” cops behind me – not the “REEL” ones!

I saved Brian’s car for last, as we all were amazed at his latest “upgrade” to his James Bond BMW from Tomorrow Never Dies.  He brought along a pal dressed as Super Spy James Bond, and he pretended to drive the car by remote control, just like in the movie.   No one can accuse Brian of wanting the spotlight, his friend was cool and collected walking down the road while Brian was well, it’s easier to just look at the photo!

Look closely, that seat has HANDS! That’s brian behind his seat disguise driving the car and looking through the headrest!  He truly suffered the heat and uncomfortable ride  to delight the parade goers! Too cool Brian, Aka “Q”!  We never know what gadget he’s going to build next!

True to form, after the parade my “cats” all scrambled off, some went home to get their “meds” others went to “in and out” but most of us made it to dinner to swap stories and catch up on the latest break downs and upgrades to our cars.

Ari couldn’t make it, and a new “mystery” batmobile almost made it in the parade with us but lost his keys to his electrical shut off switch – and by “lost” I mean a fan took the key!  But “G.I. Joe”mobile may be at an event soon!  Thanks to all who came and all the fans who yelled out each theme or show title as they recognized their favorite old car star!

SCC on TMZ at Comikaze Party! Rain, towtrucks and starcar crashes!

Last Friday night in the worst rain and traffic I have been a part of in years, three intreped StarCarCentral.com members braved the weather and conditions to support GAMERS UNITED.

Harvey Levin’s TMZ TV show had a camera crew at the Beverly Hills event for the first L.A. ComiKaze Comic Con party where three SCC members came to support the cause of the night, giving out comic books and video games to sick kids!  Michele Rodriguez was a celebrity guest and was really sweet to all three of us, she loved the cars!

Nate and Paul caught by TMZ

Jon Bumblebee, Paul BTTF, and Nate Knight Rider all braved the rain and REDONKULOUS traffic but all got there before the party and the rain started.  Various camera crews were on hand to cover the party thrown by Regina Carpinelli CEO Comikaze Expo and was held at her art gallery “The Celebrity Vault”  at 345 North Canon Drive Beverly Hills,Ca 90210 that specializes  in celebrity and rock and roll star limited edition photography.

A donation of comic books or cash and an invitation got you into the party, but there was only room for three stars outside: Bumblebee from the Transformers, Back to the future Delorean and KITT from Kinght Rider were parked out in the elements!   The buzz and photography around the cars was non stop through the night, but after a few turns in front of the camera we went next door and the three of us had a New York Style Pizza and caught up on a few stories!  After some more rain and a few more times lighting up KITT for the cameras I decided it was time to go home, as Monster Jam was the next day.  Kitt had other ideas!  It let out a terrible sound and the starter decided it didn’t want to play any more! So what does every good Knight Rider do in that situation? TURBOBOOST!!!!

"TURBO BOOST? I THOUGHT THAT WAS THE START BUTTON!"

Actually, I just called AAA and they sent out a tow truck to take KITT back to the Knight Industries repair truck.

Paul and Jon stayed a while longer while the paparazzi never stopped taking photos of KITT even while being loaded on the truck!

I got KITT safely home, dropped him in the driveway and got the A-Team van out for Monster Jam the next day.   (see previous blog!)

Sadly it was Paul’s turn next to have some bad star car incident, he made it fine to the Monster jam the next day, but on the drive home hit  a stalled truck in the road and tore up the side of his BTTF car!

When you play with your toys, stuff like this happens!  Luckily the F.L.A.G. mechanic was over on Monday (aka Alex!) and had a new starter in KITT in no time flat and we went out for a nice lunch all before noon!  That man has skills and connections! But I don’t think he can get Delorean stainless panels.

Here’s a look at Pauls car before the accident.   I am not sure I want to see what it looks like now! 😦

Paul vows to be all back together and rolling by our next event!  Many of your favorite star cars will be on display in November at www.comikazeexpo.com

TMZ was also at another SCC event but didn’t get any of the Knights of the West Coast on Camera on Valentines day.  A few fans of the Hoff showed up with Knight Rider stories for a new series where stars trade places with celebrities who have their same name!

MONSTER JAM AND STARCARS AT DODGER STADIUM PREMIER!

Thanks to Charger Steve, Star Car Central Los Angeles and San Diego Chapters  have been part of the attraction at Monster Jam shows for the last four years. Most shows we drive  a parade lap inside the stadiums for the fans as part of the pre-show.  This year we appeared at three Monster Jam shows in San Diego, Anaheim Stadium and a first time ever at Dodger stadium with different members of the famous television and motion picture car group at each event.

Back in black! Bandit, KITT and the A-team van! I Pity the fool who don't like black star cars!

In the shadow of the famous Dodger Stadium we eventually lined up our cars, hoping the rain would pass over us and we could drive the infield of Dodger stadium!

Our first stop of the day was to gather in the nearby police academy parking lot, not just because it was close and a big open area to gather but also because it was a movie and TV location used many times. Most notably in the opening sequence of “Charlie’s Angels”

So in another instance of “Cross geeking” (tm nate truman 2003) Here’s a shot of Paul’s Back to the Future delorean under the Academy arch!

"1976 pilot shoot of Charlie's Angels! Where's Farrah?"

So we all parked in the historic lot until everyone arrived!

Then we all drove around the stadium, stopping to admire a few closed gates and lined up for the driver’s area display.

'NEW JURASSIC PARK EXPLORER! LOU, WATCH OUT! IT'S BIGGER THAN IT APPEARS IN YOUR SIDE MIRRORS!

We also welcomed Scott with his Jurassic park Explorer for the first time! Everyone agreed he was an easy addition to the SCC team!   Lou was a trooper and came all the way to the event, and after a call from his wife and a look up at the sky made a wise decision and went home! Little did we know what was in store for us!

Charger Steve led us in and lined us up, then lined us up again, then finally got us where he wanted us!

"Rain? What rain?"

Lou was the first to leave of the 15 cars that made it to the stadium. We lost about three cars in the days leading up to the show, and another three before the main event started! It was going to be 20 cars! Darn Rain!

Magnum P.I. Ferrari and Back to the Future Delorean, with Knight Rider bookends!

Jenn’s SPM Kitt lead the display, Paul’s Delorean, Oscar’s Magnum P.I. 308 GTSi Ferrari followed by Alex’s KITT at the start of the row of movie and TV cars. Before the big show started, Oscar and Alex had headed for cover with their cars due to leaks! Thanks for staying for the fans as long as you did!

Herbie the Love bug, Star wars, and James Bond?

Obishawn and Yoda made a mad dash for cover, but Cliff and Justice in their Nascar Herbie and Brian in his James Bond BMW stayed for the show!  (We did have a nice tent city to keep us dry during the worst of it thanks to Mater Mike!)

Next up was the Blues Brothers 2000 police car, and Tony’s perfect Smokey and the Bandit trans am! He even had the T-Tops off for a while!  Tony’s bandit is spot on, even down to the Coors boxes!

This was the first SCC event for Scott and his dad Norm with their Jurassic park Explorer.  We have to get Ari and his Jurassic park jeep together at a future event!

What's that Orange car next to the A-Team van? It should have a sign.

Down at the far end of the display was Jon’s Bumblebee, some orange car Steve brought ( he’s working on a sign so people know what show it’s from. It was a spin off from Smokey and the bandit I think…) and the A-Team van!

Charger Steve's General Lee, and Mr. T's A-team van! (Mr. Truman, that is!)

Due to the rain, most of the owners and drivers of the Star CarCentral.com cars stayed under cover and enjoyed great food and stories in a near by tent city, but the crowds still flocked to the cars to see their favorite movie and TV cars!

Not even pouring rain could keep the fans away from the famous cars!

Towmater and the A-Team, and some contructobot transformers at Starcarcentral.com HQ!

Bringing up the other end of the display was Mike’s Towmater tribute tow truck and Nate’s A-Team van!  Those darn constructobots always are photobombing . They act more like decepticons than Autobots!

Even though the rain thinned the group throughout the day, hats off to all who came! Otherwise we would never have this cool shot of the rain storm with starcars at dodger stadium!

Next up, KITT turboboosts into the Knight Rider repair truck, and Back to the Future has a run in on the freeway on the way home….

Transformers in Chatsworth? Herbie is an Autobot? Starcarcentral.com gang just can’t stay away!

Greetings star car fans, to the starcarcentral.com 2011 show season!  I have tried to give the month of January off to all the members to give them time to repair, replace, and restore their movie and TV star cars and just to have a month with no emails from me about a charity appearance or event! But do they listen? NOOOO!   They still go to parties, high school lunch car shows,  or out to support other member’s get togethers! What can I say? We like each other!

“Starsky and Hutch” Lou had an impromptu car show to support his high school teams, and sent out a quick email, and the star car guys lined up to help out! Nice turn out!

Lou must have gotten hungry, here he is headed off to the Burger King! (It’s also just a cool shot of his Starsky and Hutch Torino!)

Is this Alex’s KITT? Nate’s KITT? Nope, Knights of the West coast member Cesear showed up and showed off his Knight Rider Replicar!  I think you will be seeing lots of new cars this year as we gather around Southern California in 2011!

The biggest growing part of the SCC recently is the Transformer owners! Bumble Bee and Ratchet showed up with a smaller transformer in between at this show!

Jon’s Bumble bee and Jason’s Ratchet make a nice pair!

Jason and Alex have been working hard upgrading Ratchet inside and out, take a look at the new seat covers!

Heck, even Herbie the Love bug seems to have caught the Transformer FEVER!

Herbie got a little Transformer “ink” for this show, just to fit in!    Lots of the regulars were in attendance, Paul with his BTTF Delorean, Charlie with his Bullit Mustang, and Sue brought her Get smart sunbeam, and showed off her new boyfriend!

I think Herbie is jealous!

For several years the Star Car central gang have been gathering and dissapearing into the side streets like phantoms at events from San Diego to Bakersfield!   If you want to find out where we are going to be this year, I will be posting upcoming events on these blogs, so subscribe!  Our first official SCC events of the year (even though I think we have had about 5 all ready!) will be Feb 12 at Anaheim Stadium for Monster Jam Monster Truck show, in two weeks, then again at Dodger Stadium also with Monster Jam monster truck show.  Our cars will be on display in the preshow driver areas so come early for the autographs and star cars!  Then we will most likely do a lap before the big show inside the arena!      New member Steven B. will be at Dodger stadium with his Jurrasic Park Monster truck! First appearance with the SCC!     As I am always looking for new members, and the members are too, Jason found a guy at this Chatsworth show with the perfect starter car for the new version of KITT and the conversion is in progress!

Let’s get that red light installed pronto!

People ask me “How many star cars do you need to find, Nate?” and I have two answers – “Just one more” or “ALL OF THEM!”    Next up, BLACK BEAUTY stunt car inside and out!

LAPD hand out the toys, and StarCarCentral hands out the smiles!

We participate as a group in several Toy’s for Tots type car shows, but where do those toys go? They get handed out, rain or shine, to needy families!  This year they lined up in the pouring rain to have some fun sledding on trucked in snow, see some cool star cars and get toys!

Transform! Into a giant Umbrella!

December 18th from 5pm-9pm LAPD Pacific Station in West LA hosted their annual Xmas Toy give away “Winter Wonderland” for 3,000 low income kids and their families.  This year they had great sponsors such as Frito Lay, Nestle, StarcarCentral.com  etc. donating and providing treats for the kids.

The toys were all ready, and the people were lined up around the block, even in the rain!

Rain out side the tent, SNOW inside!

Three StarCarCentral.com members showed up to help make the event special, Paul with his Back to the Future Delorean, Jon with his Transformers Bumblebee, and Buckaroo with his Transfomer Ratchet van!

Normally the doors are open on the Delorean, but... it was a bit wet!

Paul and Jon ended the year at a party with their cars out front – bonus points to both of them for finishing out the year strong!    Now I promised all the SCC members some time off for repairs so January is OFF LIMITS so all the owners can repair, rest and recuperate until February for Monster Jam in a new location, Dodger stadium!   So I will be fixing KITT and the A-Team van, and scheduling NO events in January. Well, there is the grand national Roadster show in Pomona on the 28-30th, and I just learned of a special museum of cars that is only open on Friday Jan 7th….. soooooo

Have a safe New Years, and start making those resolutions! See you in 2011!
