StarCarCentral.com all over the place!

Greetings, starcar fan!

As my time to write up articles about famous movie and TV cars has been trunkated by new projects,  here at least is what’s been going on around  SCC the past month or so!

Fireball Tim -movie and TV car designer and pal to the SCC has been doing fun short videos over on his site and working his way through the SCC line up!

Chuck aka “Rod Riguez” is the latest captured on camera with Fireball!

before that both Jerry with his Herbie, and Lou with his Starsky and Hutch Torino took Tim for a spin as well!

This last weekend a few SCC members headed out to the Pumpkin Festival in Calabassas and had a great time with the Great Pumpkin!

HERBIE AND ROBOCOP? ONLY AT STARCARCENTRAL.COM!

A few of the “southern” SCC guys did a mid week event at the Temecula Valley International Film Festival and dropped off the movie makers and stars to the red carpet in September GARY with his KITT from Knight Rider, TONY  and his SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT Trans Am along with  JERRY and his HERBIE.

Our annual appearance at the South Pasadena Police and Fire Open house was a big gathering and lots of fun as well!

The “HERBIE’S” took a road trip finding many of the filming locations from their “Love Bug” movies ending up at where else? Disneyland!

Then Ten star cars were on display at “Crusin for a Cure” to help find a cure for Prostate Cancer – A surprise visit from a new Green Hornet from San Diego area was a highlight!

(Photos you ask? Well, my computer crashed and guess what went with it?) I did meet up with a new star car pal,
with his Frese -McQueen – He works at Disney so no copyright infringement is implied. How about “Thunder-McQueen?” (Copyright Nate Truman 2011)

Then the 10-4 day parade down hollywood blvd had Adam-12 and Robocop along with the Batmobile with lights and sirens blaring to honor policemen and women both real and “REEL”

Here’s a fan video from up above, of the police cars followed by THE BATMOBILE!  “That is not Batman and Robin!” 🙂 you are correct, we are wasting gas and having fun with our old cars.  🙂

A group display showed up at the Route 66 9/11 event and tribute up in the Northern part of Los Angeles as well!

Then a visit with the cast of the 1966 Batman televisions series, a meeting with Doc Savage aka Tarzan, aka Ron Ely –

and a get together with Rex Smith star of “Streethawk” in an effort to build him a Streethawk bike mold so he can get back on

his TV star car.  (Anyone have any info on the whereabouts of the Streethawk bikes? Also looking for a 80’s Reb Brown Capt. America Bike, and a Battlestar Galactica 1980 Bike and Helmet set!)

Next up is the Harmony Car show!  If you want to stop by and see the SCC up close and in person, here’s your next event.

Wizard World Comic Convention and Star Car Central.com in Anaheim 3 day eventorama!

Wizard World Conventions are all over the U.S. and Canada and over the last few years I have sent a few area chapter members out to appear with their movie or TV car, mostly on the East Coast and Canada.  But when Adam West and Burt Ward, the original Batman and Robin make a rare appearance here in nearby Anaheim, well the batsignal goes up, and starcars roll out!   More of the original Bat cast was in attendance as well, Lee Meriweather who was catwoman in the Batman Feature film, Malichi Throne who played the villain “False Face” as well as a host of celebrities and artists from all walks of fandom!

Nateman (That’s me!) and my Natemobile were up near the entrance, and right in front of Batman and Robin! Even though I was a bit lonely without my star car pals, it was a fun time meeting all the batfans and helping to raise money for the “Friends of Angels” Autism Camp.  We are in our eighth year and going strong!

Meanwhile, in the back, the rest of the peanut gallery were putting on their own show, and having fun talking to the press and fans!

Paul agreed to a rare interview about his car.... 🙂

When it comes to any comic con, you never know what “crossgeeking” surprises you  will see. (Crossgeeking means a fanatical pursuit or interest in two divergent areas of traditional geekyness, Such as owning a Herbie the Love bug, and also speaking klingon – copyright Nate Truman 2001! Go ahead and google it!) Here is an example that popped up, a Flux Capacitor in a Magnum P.I. Ferrari!

The fans crowded in to see the star cars we had on display, and lots of interviews for various media outlets, both TV and online sites were constantly quizzing the star car owners in front of the cameras.

The crowds were non stop all day long, and everyone had a great time checking out costumes, artists and celebrities that they got to spend time chatting with in person.  Hey, I got to talk with the 80’s Captain America about the release of the new one. Reb Brown is still in great shape and could pick up the shield!

But you can’t see the cars, so here is a shot of the set up before the doors opened up.

Rockin' the 80's... well Herbie spans several decades!

My A-Team van was on display for Friday only, then we swapped out the van for Brian’s James Bond BMW Saturday and Sunday along with three day attenders Oscar and his Ferrari from Magnum P.I. Paul’s BTTF Delorean, Alex’s KITT from Knight Rider and Brian’s Robo-Herbie. (Also there were two classic “Snake and Mongoose” funny cars! )

Being inside with fans who “get” our cars is always a treat. Plus, the fans are a lot more interesting to talk to and people watch at a comic con too!

Even Kermit the Frog came by to do some interviews!

Lots of dinner’s out and buying stuff we just had to have as well as meeting old friends made for a great weekend of fun fandom!

Look for us in November at the Los Angeles Comic Con, Danny’s BTTF Delorean inside at the San Diego Comic Con!  When this many fans line up to see us, well, we are always glad to share our famous movie and TV cars!

Buy the cars from Captain America movie on March 3rd!

Not every superhero has a signature vehicle, like the batmobile.  That doesn’t mean there aren’t some cool vehicles in their movies! This summer’s Capt America set in the 1930’s is done with shooting and now has a lot of vintage vehicles on their hands, that they are selling off – only problem, is they are in England! So if you want a piece of the Captain, and you are willing to ship it across the Atlantic, then you can have one of the cars below!

Marvel Studios is putting 47 different cars and trucks from its upcoming ‘Captain America’ movie up for auction – own and drive a piece of the movie for less than $10,000.

Captain Americe title and logo for auction

At some point in his life every boy has wanted to own some version of the famous Batmobile or dreamed of cruising around in some other vehicle they saw in a movie. In general, most people can never own a piece of vehicular cinematic history due to price or practicality those that can, join the StarCarCentral.com crew!  But if you don’t want something as high profile as the SCC member’s drive, then maybe one of these Captain America classics are just right for your garage!

Marvel Studios recently announced they plan on selling almost every vehicle used during filming of Captain America: The First Avenger at an auction held in England, which will be facilitated by the auctioneers Historics at Brooklands.

There are a total of 53 vehicles ranging from cars, trucks, ambulances and school buses and some even include movie paraphernalia such as logos and actual bullet holes.

Auctioning off equipment and props used for a film isn’t a new idea and has been done before by other studios. However, what Marvel Studios is doing by making this MANY vehicles from one movie available to the general bidding public is unprecedented. There are three other factors regarding this auction that make it truly unique:

  • Each vehicle is authentic, is restored and was ACTUALLY used in the film – there are no replicas being sold.
  • With the exception of one truck, every vehicle is estimated to sell for under $10,000 – most are valued around the $3500 – $4500 range.
  • Most vehicles have little or no reserve.

You might be wondering why Marvel Studios would want to sell off the vehicles they spent good money putting together and customizing. The answer is pretty simple – Captain America director Joe Johnston and executive producer Nigel Gostelow are both passionate classic car fans. Says Gostelow:

“I, along with our director, Joe Johnston, are both avid ‘petrol heads’, and so historical accuracy was vitally important to us. When it comes to movie production, the settings need to look and feel real, and these cars played a large part in that process.”

Historics at Brooklands will hold the open auction on March 3rd, 2011 and you can bid on any vehicle of your choosing by telephone or through an online bidding process – even if you don’t live in England. If you are interested in seeing pictures of the cars’ interiors and engines, then be sure to check out Historics at Brooklands’ website . We’ve posted the profiles of the seven most interesting-looking vehicles below with the remaining forty in a gallery on the next page.
