TMPCC and BBQ and the Beatles live?

Several SCC members were special guests of the TMPCC to their end ofthe year BBQ.

The BBQ was awesome! The main event was this amazing truck filled with sound equipment!

The cars that showed up were Ari with Jurassic Park, Jon w/ Bumblebee, Tony with the Bandit (It looks PRISTINE and the rebuilt engine is perfect), and Gary with KITT.

The big attraction was a high end sound recording truck, and a tribute band that plays the Beatles songs.  The band was like listening to the real thing, great tribute and very high quality sound equipment. LeMobile has quite the set up in that truck of theirs! And talk about food! The  food was delicious! Burgers, Hot Dogs, Ribs, Chicken, Chips, Drinks, and a Margarita Machine!

Closest thing to the Beatles live!

Overall it was a small and quick event, but gave us all time to talk and relax together and watch  $500,000 cars burn out of the parking lot!  Thanks TMPCC for adding our guys to your event!

Petersen Museum star car tour puts batmobile next to classics

Once in a great while,  OK almost NEVER the star car central gang goes to something with out their famous cars, and just goes someplace to hang out…. that happens to HAVE famous movie and TV cars!  That was the case when a bunch of the gang visited the famous Petersen museum in Los Angeles on the Miracle mile.  Near the La Brea Tar pits stands the several story structure that houses one of the most diverse and interesting collection of “art” on wheels!

One of the two black beauties from the original GREEN HORNET series is in the “cars of Hollywood” section with rockets and gas guns!

Of course right next to it is the crime fighting car of Batman from the 1992 Michael Keaton movie.

And if they are shining the bat symbol, then we all know, the caped crusader will answer the call!

“Someone call Nate Truman?  I mean Batman?”

This red ferrari was the one from Gumball rally, “What’s behind you doesn’t matter!”  Go rent that film!  it’s a hoot!

For a period on US history, making advertising cars was all the rage, this one was for V8 Juice.

The main floor is a walk through California auto history, and is really well laid out. Cars, gas pumps, dealships from the early days of the motor car, as well as reproductions of one of the classic roadside diners! You may recognize this from the Rocketeer movie!

The first full sized mach 5 based on the cartoon, not the later movie is in the Petersen collection. The doors are painted on, but as far as looking like the original cartoon, this is the best in the world.   “Quick Trixie, get Spridle and chim chim out of the trunk, so we can fight some spies!”

Something that caught Oscar’s eye was this set of “turn signal gloves” from the early days of motoring.  They would reflect red and white and keep your hands safe and warm, while performing the hand signals to alert traffic and horses your intention to change course!

On the top floor is a kids area where you can learn about cars and a new display of 3d versions of kids drawings of fantasy cars.  My favorite thing that I sit and watch everytime I go to the museum is the “thingamajig” I have no idea what it’s called, but it cycles billiard balls around and up and down in constantly changing patterns, ya can’t explain it, you just need to go see it!

So this weekend we will be at the Montebello at the street fair on Saturday the 16, and then at the Pumpkin Festival in Calabassas on Sunday the 17th of October.  Stop by and say “HI!”

One Adam-12 see the man! Policecars are part of the TV landscape!

“One Adam-12, see theman, fight with chains and knives…”  if you were watching TV in the 70’s it was hard not to see and enjoy the adventures of the LAPD through the stories of Adam-12.  Mark G. has a spot on Adam-12 car and also volunteers at the police museum.

He and lots of other owners of classic police cars got together for 10-4 day in downtown Hollywood, outside Hollywood and highland, starting at the museum.

Gary Goltz organizes this parade each year to honor all those who have served as police officers. He can be seen with his Buick from “Highway Patrol”.  Not as many star cars this year due to the work week day, and the rain! (Batman doesn’t do rain!)

Here’s a fans video of the event, and you can get a feel for the day, without getting wet!

Thanks to Dave “Bullitt” we got a little air time on Channel 7!

more photos HERE!

If you are too young to remember “Highway Patrol” here’s the opening that would follow the adventures on the highways of the 50’s!

10-4!   Thanks to all who participated!  Now if someone has footage of  KITT, Starsky, bullitt and Robocop, send me a link, because I can’t find it, but there were there in the rain!

Good job gang, 10-4!!

Ghostbuster Ecto-1 vs. Monkeemobile? Starsky and Hutch vs. Herbie?

Star car Central clubs are getting together and having fun all over the world! This group took to the dragstrip  and took the famous movie and TV vehicles head-to-head!   No one posted their quarter mile times, so I guess the winner only gets bragging rights to those who where there!

The General Lee heads up the gang, and they all took their turns on the dragstrip!

Starsky and Hutch Torino vs The General Lee Charger? Who will win?    Great (or crazy!) minds think alike, and these photos remind me of my time on the track with “Road and Track” years ago at California Speedway!  So I know it was a day of just plain star car fun!  The monkeemobile vs. the Ectomobile?  How cool is that?

To see the batmobile go up against Mad Max, General Lee, Starsky’s Torino  and even a Delorean Time Machine, check out our spread in Car and Driver Magazine awhile back!  My car even made the COVER!….. (upper right corner, but hey, I was on the cover of Car and Driver!)   🙂
Great photos, and great fun!
