This car is either a 1970 Chevelle with a 1971 rear bumper or it’s a 1971 with a 1970 front bumper, and it is not an original SS.

The car is either a 71 or 72 Chevelle and has a 70 Chevelle front clip. It is a non Super Sport car as shown by the instrumentation.

the body is that of a 71. I’ve own a 70, 71 and a 72 chevelle. (several of them). the 70 has sharper body lines towards the rear, though almost identical to the 71. The 72 body towards the back of the windows is smoother and doesn’t have a boxy look like the 70 and 71. So the body is a 71 with a 70 front clip. But why would they do that? Just to get us car buffs thinking?? Still a nice care in any event and unique.

I personally like the look. Former owner of 70, 71 and a 72. Thought about doing it myself. Love the look of the 71 and 72 rear but hate the single big headlamp.

all 70 to 72 chevelle’s use the same rear quarters. the only difference as far as the sheet metal goes is the front fenders and grills/head lights etc.. hoods, doors, roofs, and quarters are identical. The difference between 71/72 is the small bar that separates the parking light lens in the front.

I’m trying to bring my 70 chevelle back from a coma and I want to put a 72 rear bumper on . What all do I need beside the bumper , lights , lenses ect ? Is this an easy project or am I going to have to bust out a torch ? Thanks for all advice -Justin

      Justin,
I did the same to my 70. just because i favored the duel on duel. All you need is the 71-72 bumper, tail light bezels, and lenses. and the 71-72 bumper brackets as they are different from the 70. aswell as the 71-72 rear valance as the 70 is different also. It will bolt right up and the lights will hook right into the bezels.
